I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land that I live and work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation and their ongoing connection to land, waters and culture. I also acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.

‘A Place to Chat’ MAC yapang Sculpture Park

From afar the ‘A Place to Chat,’ bench sinks into its environment, complimenting the stunning surroundings of yapang. In the creation of this work, I shared conversations with the Lake Macquaire and Newcastle Suicide Prevention Network and folks with lived experience as we, together, hoped to create a place to chat. Following our conversations I made small design choices, words of support wrap around the work, adding texture to run your hands over. The two tones of earthy warm colours and smooth curves allow you to sink into the bench and look out at the water for hours. The shape of the sculpture is intended to allow for conversation from different locations, no need to make eye contact if you’re not feeling it. Please use this work to talk, to be present in a space and enjoy the beauty of Awabakal land.

Developed in partnership with @lakemac_newcastle_suicide_pn and assisted by the Australian Government through Australian Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body and by the NSW government through Create NSW.

Testing Grounds Installation - Southbank VIC 2021

Through a one month residency at Testing Grounds Melbourne in the Creative Development program I was able to flesh out my first iterations of sculptural exploration. Exploring my shapes in a 3-d format. I’ve been working with wood, clay, wire, paper-mache and plaster - all easily accessible materials that are good for experimentation.

The abstract shapes hang, contained within the metal frame. A body or collection of bodies suspended in the space between the inside and the outside. An uncertainity as they rest on each other, barely hanging on but stable in their reliance.

Collaboration with Benjamin Thomson

As I move into the sculptural realm I have been collaborating with Benjamin Thomson on modelling of ideas to best be able to communicate these new concepts.
Proposed material for this work is laser cut acrylic and exterior acrylic paints. This is a concept relating to bodies in public space, looking at how certain spaces make us feel in an attempt to ask the audience to really consider each other’s experience. As you walk around the artwork you see different colours and different perspectives and from a few points you can see two huddled together cells that feel hidden and almost cocooned within the artwork itself.
